I don't know who came up with the title Lambert's show but it was absolutely spot on. After announcing himself entering the stage ("Ladies and gentlemen give a big Perth welcome to ME!"), the packed audience roared approval and we were off on a light-hearted ramble through life as experienced by him.
Lambert's appearance suited his delivery to a tee. Tall, lanky, blonde-haired and with a naive expression that simply said "Trust me". The audience warmed to his pleasant comments about Perth. It was as if we had been invited in for a relaxed fireside chat.
Superb self confidence, of course, underlies the kind of relaxed persona Lambert assumes onstage. Those of us who had never heard of him were interested to hear (from someone in the entrance queue) that he had been on TikTok. His comments about the audience then made sense, "That we were more like parents than his usual audience profile."
This lead to some amusing observations about the different reactions from audiences of different cultures and nationalities. In USA it's not unusual to be greeted with a standing ovation even before the commencement of the act.
From there Lambert moved to more personal issues, some imagined I assume, but nevertheless intriguing. Autism, and it's physical manifestations were explored in detail. Seizures brought on by extreme tension.
After a recent house move in London, Lambert progressed onto former residents of the property. These were only now visible when the houselights were completely turned off. Obviously they were ghosts. Were they old or young? Benevolent or evil?
From there he moved onto his cat, named Richard Parker. A reference to a 16th century cabin boy cast adrift with three sailors who was ultimately eaten by the remaining crew.
In a final episode Lambert revealed his shameful habit of stuttering when under stress. Having endured a seizure when purchasing jeans, he was assisted by sales staff, one of whom was similarly handicapped. Their dialogue was utterly hilarious.
Reviewing my writing I seem to have dwelt on a number of ghoulish topics however I must reiterate Lambert's delivery was at all times deliciously light even frothy. He simply charmed the audience to bits.
Sadly this was his only performance in the Perth Comedy Festival but I am sure his reputation will continue to grow, and his international reputation in film or television will continue to delight future audiences.
